Climatology and Geology

Climatology and Geology Introduction

This course offers students the ability to understand basic principles and current theories on climatology and geology.

At the end of the course, students should be able to

  • Understand basic principles and current theories in climatology and geology.
  • Apply analytical skills to study complex climatic systems and geological formations.
  • Evaluate human influences on geological and climatic systems and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Synthesize knowledge into a comprehensive research project; present findings.

What's this minisite is all about

Humans have always felt the effects of catastrophic climatological and geological processes such as weather patterns and earthquakes. However, the more subtle events of climate and geology affect us far more deeply, from the shifting of soils and rivers to predictable weather patterns.

In turn, humans have also affected these smaller phenomena through our own activities. The usage of underground water and the pumping of excessive greenhouse gases, among other things, have caused changes in the conditions at which we live, while also amplifying the effects of the more severe events.

This course aims for students to have a deeper understanding of climate and geology, and how it affects us, and how we as a species have affected them.
